Packers: Slot-Fade

The Slot-Fade has become a deadly weapon for the Packers Offense. Not only creating a downfield threat to the defense but also being an amazingly efficient scheme for Rodgers. While a huge part of the Packers success on the scheme is due to the talent of their QB and elite route runner Davante Adams, there is also something to be said for the schematics that go behind the scheme.

The Packers are well known for checking their concepts and getting in the right call against the defense that is being presented. The best part of their Slot-Fade concept is that even if the defense disguises their look pre-snap there is always a built in counter. If the defense takes away the Slot-Fade part of the concept there is always a built in answer.

Shifts & Motions were also a major part of the Packers gameplan when calling the Slot-Fade. That gave Rodgers the ability to get a pre-snap indicator of the coverage. Often times being able to decipher 1-high looks from Cover 1 or Cover 3 Variations.

The Packers also had success with mirroring the concept and running Slot-Fades on both sides while still have their Middle Read Chair to put the 1-High Safety in Conflict

The Packers looked to attack 1-High Man coverage with this concept and were right more often than not when calling it. However they also have built answers if the defense wants to get into a Cover 3 Variation as shown below:
